# How to Use AVG Bid Floor Metric in Campaign Planning

*Availability: DSP accounts and PE Enterprise accounts.*

## Overview

The **AVG Bid Floor** metric in **Analytics > BI** shows the average minimum CPM that Publishers request for their Inventory.

**This supply-side metric can help you:**

* Understand Inventory pricing.
* Estimate campaign potential.
* Compare pricing across Inventory segments.
* Plan Campaign budgets.
* Develop a bidding strategy based on the available Inventory.

{% hint style="info" %}
The AVG Bid Floor reflects the average minimum pricing set by publishers for the analyzed inventory. It does not ensure winning bids or guarantee specific campaign reach. To evaluate actual reach during campaign execution, monitor the Fill Rate metric, which indicates your winning rate on the publisher side.
{% endhint %}

## Understanding AVG Bid Floor

### What the Metric Indicates

| **Observation**                  | **Potential interpretation**                                                                                                |
| -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Lower AVG Bid Floor | The Inventory may be accessible at a lower bid price, providing broader reach potential within the available budget. |
| Higher AVG Bid Floor | The Inventory requires a higher minimum bid and may represent more limited or premium opportunities. |
| Different floors across segments | Pricing conditions vary according to factors such as geography, media type, source type, Publisher, placement, and ad size. |

### Using AVG Bid Floor to Estimate Potential

The metric can support Campaign planning in several ways:

* **Bid Planning:** Compare the planned Bid Price with the average floor of the targeted Inventory.
* **Budget Planning:** Estimate which Inventory segments may be accessible within the available budget.
* **Market Comparison:** Compare average floors across countries, formats, and supply sources.
* **Reach Planning:** Identify segments where the Campaign may have greater reach potential.

Bidding above the average floor can increase the Campaign’s potential to access more Inventory. However, AVG Bid Floor is an average, and actual floors may vary between individual requests.

## Filtering the Data

Unfiltered AVG Bid Floor data combines different Inventory types, geographies, and formats into one average. Apply filters that match the planned Campaign configuration before using the metric for decision-making.

### Primary Filters

#### Source Type

Use **Source Type** to separate:

* **App:** Mobile application Inventory.
* **Site:** Website Inventory.

#### Media Type

Use **Media Type** to analyze the applicable format:

* Banner
* Video
* Native

#### Country

Use **Country** to:

* Compare regional pricing.
* Identify differences between target markets.
* Estimate the bid and budget requirements for each geography.

### Additional Dimensions

Add dimensions when a more detailed comparison is required:

| **Dimension**     | **Use**                                                                                                                                |
| ----------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Publisher | Compare average floors across inventory partners. (Publisher IDs are fully disclosed in the <https://s.gamoshi.io/sellers.json> file.) |
| App Bundle / Site | Review pricing for specific applications or sites. |
| Ad Size | Compare pricing across available ad formats and sizes. |

## Campaign Planning Workflow

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Define the Campaign Requirements

Before reviewing the metric, determine:

* The target audience and geography.
* The Source Type.
* The Media Type.
* The available budget.
* The Campaign’s performance objective.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Open the BI Report

1. Navigate to **Analytics > BI**.
2. Select the relevant reporting period.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Apply the Campaign Filters

Apply filters that match the planned Campaign, including:

* Source Type.
* Media Type.
* Country.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Add Relevant Dimensions

Add dimensions such as:

* Publisher.
* App Bundle / Site.
* Ad Size.

These dimensions allow you to compare the AVG Bid Floor across specific Inventory segments.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Review the Results

Compare the AVG Bid Floor across the selected segments and identify:

* Segments with lower average floors.
* Segments requiring higher bids.
* Differences between Publishers or placements.
* Markets that fit the planned budget and Bid Price.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Plan and Test the Bid

Use the results to define the initial Bid Price and budget allocation.

The Campaign can test Bid Prices above the relevant average floors and compare the results to identify an appropriate balance between reach and cost.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Applying the Metric

### Allocating Budget Across Markets

For Campaigns targeting multiple markets:

* Allocate more budget to lower-floor markets when the primary objective is broader reach.
* Reserve sufficient budget for higher-floor markets when required.
* Compare the potential reach and cost across the different floor ranges.

### Developing a Bid Strategy

AVG Bid Floor can be used as a reference point when setting the Campaign’s Bid Price.

Possible actions include:

* Testing bids 20%–50% above the relevant average floor.
* Comparing Campaign delivery at different Bid Prices.
* Adjusting the Bid Price when floor conditions change.

{% hint style="info" %}
Bidding above the AVG Bid Floor does not guarantee a win. Auction competition and the floor of each individual request can affect the result.
{% endhint %}

### Evaluating a New Market

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Filter the report

Filter the BI report by the relevant **Source Type** and **Media Type**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Compare target countries

Compare AVG Bid Floor across potential target countries.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Review inventory dimensions

Review differences by **Publisher**, **App Bundle**, **Site**, or **Ad Size**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Estimate budget and bid price

Estimate the budget and **Bid Price** required for each market.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Advanced Analysis

### Trend Analysis

Review AVG Bid Floor over time to identify:

* Seasonal changes.
* Rising or falling Inventory prices.
* Changes in market accessibility.
* Periods that may offer greater reach potential.

### Cross-Segment Comparison

Compare AVG Bid Floor across:

* App and Site Inventory.
* Banner, Video, and Native Inventory.
* Countries.
* Publishers.
* App Bundles and Sites.
* Ad Sizes.

This comparison can help identify which segments best match the Campaign’s budget and reach requirements.

### Comparing Floors with Campaign Performance

Compare AVG Bid Floor with:

* Campaign Bid Price.
* Fill Rate.
* Reach.
* Campaign delivery.

This can help illustrate how the selected Bid Price compares to the relevant Inventory floors.

## Common Analysis Scenarios

### Maximizing Reach with a Limited Budget

Filter for relevant markets with an AVG Bid Floor below $1.50 CPM. Compare the available countries and Inventory segments to identify where the budget may produce the highest impression volume.

### Planning a Premium Campaign

Review Inventory with an AVG Bid Floor above $3.00 CPM in the required markets. Use the results to estimate the Bid Price and budget needed to access that Inventory.

### Planning Geographic Expansion

Compare AVG Bid Floor across potential new markets to estimate their pricing requirements and reach potential.

## Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary>The AVG Bid Floor Appears Too Broad</summary>

Apply Source Type, Media Type, and Country filters. An unfiltered average combines Inventory with different pricing conditions.

</details>

<details>

<summary>The Campaign Is Not Winning Despite Bidding Above the Average Floor</summary>

AVG Bid Floor is the average, rather than the floor, across all requests. Review:

* The Campaign’s Bid Price.
* Floor prices for the targeted segments.
* Fill Rate.
* Publisher, App Bundle, Site, and Ad Size breakdowns.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Two Segments Show Very Different Average Floors</summary>

Add more dimensions to identify the source of the difference. Pricing may vary by Publisher, App Bundle, Site, geography, Media Type, or Ad Size.

</details>

<details>

<summary>The AVG Bid Floor Changed Over Time</summary>

Review the metric by date and compare the same filters and dimensions. Changes may reflect seasonal patterns, market conditions, or differences in the analyzed Inventory.

</details>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Key takeaway:** AVG Bid Floor becomes most useful when the BI report is filtered to match the Campaign’s actual Source Type, Media Type, geography, and Inventory requirements. Use it as a planning reference for bids, budgets, and potential reach, not as a guaranteed auction price or delivery forecast.
